2011 Photojournalistic Wedding Photo Favourites – part 1

First of all I’d like to extend a humungous (yes humungous a crazy word that is hard to spell) THANK YOU to all my clients for letting me have the honour of photographing their Wedding Day.  Every one of them was unique and beautiful.

There is nothing more important to me on someone’s wedding day than to capture the moments as they happen – the reality of the Wedding Day.  Not the posed or directed shots (which can certainly be gorgeous and dramatic & must have for the collection) but the moments in between when people’s true personalities are right in front of you & you can almost feel like you were there when you look at the photograph.

I thought it would be fun to show you the SHOTS UNSEEN – those not previously posted in blog postings or on my website.  Here are just a few random selections of my fav candids – more to be posted in the near future!

Again a sincere thank you to all for making my 2011 a phenomenal year I will never forget. Without sounding too corny, you all hold a special place in my heart and I wish you & your families nothing but the best for 2012!

Kyle & Daniel

I met Daniel & Kyle at Crystal & Jon’s wedding this past Fall & I was thrilled when they asked me to do a photo shoot for them.  We met at Starbucks and I just knew we were going to have a fun shoot.  I had always wanted to do a shoot at Dartmouth Crossing where the outdoor Amphitheatre is – there is a great stone bridge, beautiful river and so many places to shoot new creative ideas.  Here are just a few shots from their shoot!

NB wedding photographer to NS pregnancy photography

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Lisa & Mark’s wedding back in August 2010 in New Brunswick so I was simply thrilled when Lisa called me up this past fall to request a pregnancy shoot.  Here is a teaser before the full post next week!

The Last Wedding of the Season…

I truly couldn’t have had a better last wedding of the season than Gillian and Jason’s. They were married on October 22nd – on again yet another fabulous Fall day in Nova Scotia!  Gillian had all her bridesmaids around her helping her get her beautiful Anjolique wedding dress on. She borrowed a blue ring from her cousin Karen who is more like a sister to her than a cousin.  Jason’s daughter Abby was the most adorable flowergirl and the flowers from Rosebowl were stunning as the Fall accent for Gillian and her bridesmaids!  The limo arrived on time and we were off to the most quaint, hidden away yet gorgeous church near Shubenacadie with a long driveway lined with the tallest trees you’ve ever seen.

As the years move on, I realize more and more that although family will always hold the #1 spot in my heart, that friends are simply irreplaceable. When Jason and Gillian made their thank you speeches to their family & friends, Jason made the most poetic statement I’ve ever heard in my entire life about how his friends would always be there to support him.  Suffice it to say it certainly moved me and many others in the room to tears when his best men all helped lift him to stand to kiss his new bride.

Gillian and Jason are both very lucky to have one another – they joked and laughed all day long surrounded by the best of friends of family.  It was absolutely my pleasure and honour to photograph their wedding day - I wish them all the best that life can bring!

A Bride’s View of her Wedding Day

We met at Starbucks in April of 2011 and I instantly connected with Crystal & Jon.  Jon had a great sarcastic sense of humour and when Crystal giggled at him I had to laugh too – it was sweet & funny all at the same time.  They were fun people who loved to laugh – my kind of clients and now I’m happy to say friends.  Instead of me telling you what their wedding day was like – I thought it might be fun to have a little of the bride’s perspective of what her day was like instead of mine.  I took the photographs but Crystal answers some questions on what her wedding day felt like…

One word to describe the day: Perfect
Favourite moment: Seeing Jon at the end of the aisle
What went too fast aside from the whole day: The Ceremony

As per Crystal…”I got really nervous the 45 minutes prior to the Ceremony but when I got to peek outside and see all my family & friends & Jon waiting for me – it just felt right & I was no longer nervous. We chose The Saraguay House because it reminded us of home/of the country even though it’s within the city and the waterfront also reminded me of the lakefront where I spent every summer of my childhood in NB.”

Crystal and Jon wrote their own vows for the ring exchange and their fun-loving personalities came out even more – I couldn’t help but laugh when Crystal said “I give you this ring to keep the Dalhousie girls away…” and Jon saying “I give you this ring because I know you love sparkly things…”

Check out their Slideshow of Highlights to see more from October 15, 2011!

Thank you to Emma Poliquin for 2nd shooting with me and for taking the great shot below of the groomsmen!
