Matt Haimovitz plays a Venetian cello, made in 1710 by Matteo Gofriller. 300 years old – unbelievable!!!
I can appreciate the concept of doing a photo shoot on a sandy rocky beach with the wind blowing uncontrollably and ocean right behind him may have been a little daunting but we had a wonderful time.
Matt made his debut in 1984, at the age of 13, and at 17 he made his first recording with James Levine and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Haimovitz has since gone on to perform on the world’s most esteemed stages, with such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
This past month he was in town to play at the Scotia Festival of Music and our beautiful Nova Scotian landscapes made for yet another amazing stage. His music was incredible and as he played on the oceanfront, I had an amazing experience shooting his photographs. Learn more about Matt and hear his phenomenal sound on his website.
