Helen & Chris at The Halifax Club

Helen & Chris were married on January 7, 2012 in an evening wedding at The Halifax Club.  It was elegant, intimate and entertaining to say the least – these people really know how to party & dance!  Very energetic guests and dancing that lasted the whole night long.  I can still hear the piano music during the cocktail hour…

More in the slideshow of highlights here – congratulations to Helen & Chris!

Halifax Engagement Photo Shoot

I met Suzanne this past summer when she booked me for her 2012 wedding and I was so glad I would soon meet Jason & we could all hook up at the end of December for an Engagement session. I love to get to know my clients before their wedding date comes & we were lucky enough to have decent weather where we could go outside for a few shots and also stroll along the downtown waterfront.   Suzanne & Jason live in Nunavut so they are completely used to below (far below) 0 temperatures but I’m a bit of a baby (as per my husband) when it comes to winter weather at times. I thought about putting Hot Pockets in my mittens when I shot outside but I guess they stopped selling those in the 1990′s or something.

As we shot indoors at St. Mary’s (Suzanne is a teacher:)I felt a pang of missing my old university days at Western in London, Ontario (don’t hate). That pang quickly faded when I remembered the never ending oatmeal & big 1000 calories chocolate chip muffins I ate because I downsized my meal plan in order to save money yet still managed to gain 20 pounds in my 1st yr.

I love using architectural aspects of a building in my photography work and St. Mary’s Atrium glass roof and winding staircases did not disappoint. This 3 storey living wall is jaw-dropping & contains approx. 1,100 plants and is one of the largest living walls in the world!   Sneak a peek at their slideshow if you want to see more of their eshoot… looking so forward to photographing this wedding in August!

If you could have a “creative photo shoot” anywhere in Halifax where would you want your picture taken?

Best of 2011

Part 3 – What can I say there are still more of my favourite photos. I call these some of the best of 2011 – why because I love them!

2011 Random Favourites – Part 2

Someone once said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and I couldn’t agree more.  When I look back on this incredible year and remember wonderful moments in my personal life and all the weddings I went to and photographed it was extremely difficult to choose my “favourites” because I try to figure out what that means everytime I look at a photograph.  What is appealing about it?  Is there emotion? Is there something funny going on?  Is it stunning?  Will the bride like it?  Will the groom?  And oh my what about their mothers?  And fathers?  And friends?

I obviously want my clients, their friends, their family, my friends and my family to enjoy and love the photographs I take.  And I’m not egotistical enough to think that every photograph is beautiful to everyone.   Every moment in a wedding is important to me because the day is so fleeting and goes by far too fast.  The bottom line is that every wedding I shoot I always want to get better and better at telling their story as I see it happening in front of me.

And with that a final thank you to all of my clients of 2011 for letting me tell their story one photograph at a time.  All the best for 2012 – stay in love with life everyday!

2011 Photojournalistic Wedding Photo Favourites – part 1

First of all I’d like to extend a humungous (yes humungous a crazy word that is hard to spell) THANK YOU to all my clients for letting me have the honour of photographing their Wedding Day.  Every one of them was unique and beautiful.

There is nothing more important to me on someone’s wedding day than to capture the moments as they happen – the reality of the Wedding Day.  Not the posed or directed shots (which can certainly be gorgeous and dramatic & must have for the collection) but the moments in between when people’s true personalities are right in front of you & you can almost feel like you were there when you look at the photograph.

I thought it would be fun to show you the SHOTS UNSEEN – those not previously posted in blog postings or on my website.  Here are just a few random selections of my fav candids – more to be posted in the near future!

Again a sincere thank you to all for making my 2011 a phenomenal year I will never forget. Without sounding too corny, you all hold a special place in my heart and I wish you & your families nothing but the best for 2012!
